What is it?
The Neath Archers Indoor Ladder is a friendly club competition running from October to March each year, open to all club members, regardless of age, bow type, ability or experience.
The ladder is based on your improvement from month to month, giving you something to work towards whatever your starting point. Whether you’re a beginner building confidence or an experienced archer refining your technique, everyone can get involved.
How does it work?
Each score you submit is converted into a handicap (using tables published by Archery GB). This allows results from different rounds to be compared, so you can choose a round you’re comfortable shooting.
At the end of each month:
- The handicaps from all your submitted scores are averaged to give your monthly average handicap.
- Your monthly average is compared with your previous month’s average to measure your improvement.
A lower handicap represents a better performance, so a reduction in your monthly average shows improvement.
You can submit as many scores as you like each month. All submitted scores contribute to your monthly average, so please submit regularly to build a picture of your shooting throughout the season.
When can I join?
You can join at any point during the indoor season.
Your first month establishes your starting point. You must submit scores in two consecutive months before you can appear on the ladder, as we need two monthly averages to calculate a difference.
For example, if you first submit scores in November, those results establish your starting point. Submit scores again in December and we can compare the two months to calculate your first result.
What rounds can I shoot?
You can shoot any recognised indoor round that you’re comfortable with.
You don’t have to shoot the same round every time, because each score is converted into a handicap before your monthly average is calculated.
If you’re unsure which round to choose, see the Introduction to Indoor Archery post or speak to Graham.
How do I submit my scores?
Use the score submission form linked above . You’ll need to provide:
- Your full name – please use the same name format each time so your scores can be digitally matched.
- Your bow type.
- The round you shot.
- Your score.
Use the Additional Comments field if your round isn’t listed or if you shot six arrows per end.
Submit promptly
Scores normally count towards the month in which you submit them, so please submit each score as soon as possible after shooting.
If you’re submitting a score from a previous month, put the actual date you shot it in the Additional Comments field so it can be allocated to the correct month.
For example, if you shoot a round on 31 October but submit it on 1 November, include the October shooting date in the comments.
Where can I see the results?
Results will be printed and displayed at club sessions and published above.
